Another installment in the Greeting Cards from Previous Years series. This was fun and I somehow managed to keep from overworking it. The paint is fairly thin, almost watercolory. Acrylic 8X10
Awesome! Sam as Father Xmas, he looks cool with a beard too... in that other one thats kinda like a Coca-cola comercial he looks good with that beard too. Then again I am a fan of beards.
Humbert H Humbert-- I appreciate what you're saying about the detailed stuff I do but I call those " dense". Overworked is when I scrub it and scrub it trying to fix something and it just looks painful in the end.
Why is it a MOCK on the font? I think the Papyrus font is the weakest element of all the art exposed. If you had written or drawed the text your own style, would have made it more appropriate, a better match with your art.
Bruno-- Unless you're Pro Letterer like Lois B, sometimes a bit of typography can pull things together. Hand lettering is tough! If you don't do it right the piece can look like a MISSING CAT flyer.
I'm noticing a recurring theme . . well, it is December and Christmas only comes once a year - and so many great illustration just begging to be drawn.
looks so great! and I agree with you on the typography, I hate my own letter style, so I prefer to delegate into a already done one. In fact I wish I could do good handwritting...:)
Ooh, Papyrus font. :)

ReplyDeleteHow dare you MOCK my Papyrus font! Alright, it was probably already being overused even the year I did this card.

ReplyDeleteI like it when you overwork the pictures! It's fun spending minutes just staring, finding something funny every few seconds... =D

What an attractive stuffed tiger. And so prominent. Now I will ruminate on it's symbolic significance for hours.
ReplyDeleteGee... I was going to... um... comment on your font, too. XD
ReplyDeleteI really love the light touch on this piece. It seems so crisp and lively.
Nice style, great jobs!
