Flint Paper

An old character design for the canceled Sam & Max Freelance Police game. I like working in this rough pencil with built-up acrylic wash style. It's quick and can look remarkably finished even though it's loose. Does that make any sense?

  1. I love Flint Paper!
Everyone who I have talked to about this agrees; in a live action Sam and Max, Bruce Campbell would fit the role perfectly.

  4. I think it makes sense. I find that a rough sketch shows the flow, movement, and of course the construction of a character.

I will also have to say that I love Flint Paper. He's my favorite.

  5. Nice, he kinda has a Humphrey Bogart look to him. Or maybe it's just me. :P

  6. I'm a fan of flint. But I'm really a fan of this style. Rough yet polished. Very nice.

  10. Oh I remember the old game of Sam & Max, when they exit of your office and hear a few shots from inside the office of Flint Paper, and Sam say: "Oh I love the sensibility of Flint" and Max response: "Sam, please, don't use the word sensibility" jajaja. Is great!

  11. Hey Steve,
Great illo. Always got a kick (in the head) from reading Sam & Max. It made me even laugh out loud. Any new comics in the works?
    Best,

  14. Right now I use watercolor to block in shapes and colors before going over it with charcoal pencil.

Can you give me more detail on your process? Maybe do a start to finish blog?

I haven't used acryclics since I was in high school. Maybe I should give them a try again.
