Bud Luckey

Tribute piece for the recently retired Bud Luckey. Acrylic over Prismacolor and vice versa. If you think you haven't heard of Bud's contributions to animation, go and Google him and you'll find that you already know his work very well.

Always nice to see people getting credit where credit is due. Nicely done.

Oh man, I saw this at Pixar on Bud's tribute wall. Can't get it out of my head since. It's so well done!

Didn't think you'd upload it though. Seriously, glad you did.

Actually, Steve, I'm pretty sure it said it was gouache on the little plaque on the wall. So that was wrong?

I thought it was gouache at first too but I was surprised by the thicker coats of paint that the background holds.

It's definitely acrylic. I've used gouache a lot in the past. I was too fussy with it at the time. I'd like to try it again sometime. I've either gotten more confident or lazier but I think I could make better use of it now without all the tedious hatching I used to do.

Thanks uncle Starchie. I think you've gotten more confident. Your brush strokes are magnificiently confident. It's actually quite inspiring. Been trying to draw longer more confident lines since I saw this this morning.

Oh, how I long for the halcyon days of video games where box art and backgrounds featured art from Steven Purcell. Not sure who this Starchie character is, but he sure draws like a legend. ;)

Just a thought - you should really do the box arts for the new Sam & Max episodes, instead of the the 3D renderings. It'd be the difference between a purchase and no-purchase for me. Like a deal-breaker or something. This rabbit in your pic here reminds me of the hare with antlers running away from the Desoto in the HTR box art.

Starchie - you have skillz that defy physics.

Those spam posters are like mosquitos. Sorry if anyone has been affected by them. I'll try to stay on top of it.

Hey Steve, you should be able to turn on a thing that requires the people who wanna comment to write a code from a picture, which should help you with the spam problem. Look into the settings.
Here's a link, look at this.
