Marley

My friend Dan Scanlon is posting his previous Christmas cards on his site. Seemed like a good idea worth either ripping off or "paying homage to". I try to do either a Sam & Max or a Toybox card every year. Haven't painted this year's card yet but in the meantime...

Nice. Just out of curiosity are you planning on continuing the web comic, or was that just a one time deal?

Glorious! Max was a baaaad bad rabbity-thing in life.

I've just been gathering my Holiday Card archives, and I'm at 50 over 22 years. I'm not sure I'm brave enough to share very many though...

Somehow I find it hard to believe that Max missed many opportunities. XD What an excellent card!

The thing with this drawing (great in any other way, of course) is that you get confused with Max's expression. The thing wrapped around his head makes it so that if you see the picture too fast, he seems to be mocking some freaky, twisted smile. Then, when you close in, you notice it's a face of shock. Normally this is the kind of details you notice once and then never get wrong again, but this one just keeps happening. I think it's because one would expect Max to mock such smiles in any situation, so your mind puts it together pre-emptively as you look closer.

Bad Spud, you made a psychology drawing!
