The Curse
I have a buy off on my rough for Telltale Games "Tales of Monkey Island" cover. Still too early to post any of it as I'm in early stages of the illustration. In the meantime, here's part of my tiny contribution to Curse of Monkey Island. I believe Larry Ahern and John Ackley pitched me their idea of a LeChuck with a flaming beard so I was thinking his skull could be silhouetted in the fire. I think my Elaine is a variation on a design Larry had done, but I do sort of like something about my slender version of the Voodoo Queen.

Those are amazing! I (we) really appreciate the high quality file : )
Thank you!
The LeChuck-silhouet-skull-in-fire looks cool (or; well... hot)
This LeChuck is great!!!!b I love it!
These drawings are great, but I actually never liked the cartoon style of MI3. It didn't fit in the style of the previous two games, that amazing semi-realistic style was really extraordinary and gave a fantastic flavour to the humor of the games.
That is a superb LeChuck, nice work Steve. Thanks very much for sharing it.
The slender Vodoolady does look a lot like the Sirens from "Asterix and Obelix Take On Caesar".
Is this a coincidence or was it intentional.

I have read some Asterix in my time but wasn't consciously thinking about the Sirens. I do see the resemblance though.
Ah, Flaming LeChuck! I remember when I first heard that he was going to have a flaming beard animated in every shot...I thought "these guys are absolutely insane!" I was wrong, of course, as this turned out to be one of the cooler aspects of the design!
Didn't you do a height comparison of the characters as well as some skeleton crew sketches? I seem to remember those being in the strategy guide for CMI.
I want a fire-beard.
Wow, I didn't know you did concept art on Curse of Monkey Island.
I've always appreciated the Bill Tiller box-art. But I'd love to see how your version would've turned out.
And I'm looking forward to your Tales box-art of course.
LeChuck looks awesome!
Say, Steve: have you thought of doing one of those "step-by-step" posts on how you paint your art?
Why are your LeChucks so fucking awesome.
These monkey images are so so great; i’m such a big fan of these games. It's a shame the design was lost in the 3d games. Thanks for sharing.
great blog
I'm surprised that no one's commented on it yet, but I love your Elaine design. It's much better than the one used in CMI (which wasn't bad). Very cute!
