Monkey Island 2 Now in "ILLUSION-O"

So I heard that some ambitious fan found a way to blow out the backgrounds in Monkey Island 2 LeChuck's Revenge. Here's his demo showing how he took my cheesy marker drawing from almost twenty years ago and make it into an immersive environment. I love how he fully realized the little embryonic contents of those jars in the foreground. It's all really pretty cool.

Amazing! I wish you'd get back into videogames, this just proves how amazing your art could be realized now!

What Ed said! I liked the look of the new Monkey Island, mostly because it got my son interested in the game though;
It lacked that special kind of Purcelly feeling.

You really should get into designing and illustrating games again, or I might just weep openly. I consider this fair warning.

Eh, guys, far as I know Steve contributed designs to the new Tales of Monkey Island series, they mightn't be the same as the old ones, but they were realised pretty great.

I love that you've lent your approval to this effort Steve, as I hope Lucas put as much care into the inevitable MI2 SE as this guy has.

wow, that's REALLLY impressive actually

also, thought you'd appreciate the fact that a full on game of fizzball was played at my buddy's bachelor party this weekend. wayyy too much fun. it is now sworn in as tradition. i mentioned it once to my roommate a few years ago, and clearly it left such an impression, that he thought it needed to happen and showed up with all the neccessary "equipment"

WOW...this NEEDS to be the MI2:SE! Oh and none of that stupid contemporization that plagues the SoMI:SE. I hope LEC is listening...

I still think the original looks better. I dont like these special edition ideas... getting lesser artists to try to improve those games is just futile I think. theres nothing wrong with pixels...
if theres gonna be a special edition it should just be done with the original marker sketches!

Thanks for sharing these backgrounds. When you drew them, did you have to think ahead in terms of the limited number of colors that could be displayed on the amiga (32)?

sharprm--
We were so excited to be able to paint on paper that we weren't worried about the artwork being reduced for other ports.

They look great anyway. I guess drawing the backgrounds on a computer for MI1 was a real pain.

Give this man a job! This is how I want a remake of MI2 done. Imagine the whole game remade with those visuals, with dynamic new camera angles for conversations and cutscenes, the full voice work... *drool*

This is the most known painting on the internet, but where are the others?? It looks great, but for the remake it needs more details improvement...

While I am excited that LucsArt remade the Moneky Island 2, I found that the "improved" graphics really lacks the feel and style you originally created and Guybrush's facial expressions are simply not as amusing as it originally was. Sigh... but hey, I can always hit F1 to get back to the old days with voice acting!
