Monkey Island Cover Sketch - Part 2

Here's the promised second comp with the strange Guybrush and Elaine stand-ins. I guess at the point this sketch was done I had less of a handle on who these characters were supposed to be. There couldn't have been very much time between this drawing and the actual pencil comp for the final cover so some meaningful chatter about how to depict these characters must have taken place along the way.

I really like this post. Truly, these two look funny when you compare them to what they turned out to be in the end, but it's still very interesting to see that they weren't fully realized from the get-go. Makes one more hopeful about developing game art. Thanks Steve.

No offense, but this is worse than the last one. So glad the finals are what we ended up with.

Awesome to see this early stuff.

Sean Lane-- This might have been your Guybrush and if the actual one had never emerged you would have loved this one just the same! Right?
Sometimes you just have to get something down to prove it's wrong.

Very true, Spudnoggen.

Elaine looks like a rabbit in there. (now you can reply "how appropriate, you fight like a cow...")
